Summary

Like so many of you, I have been all consumed the last few weeks by the events going on in Gaza and the genocide that is being carried out against the Palestinian people. We've put everything on pause at First Name Basis to be able to try to share updates and share actions that we can be taking as a collective to try to support the activists and so many amazing humanitarian workers that are on the ground in Gaza.

After having some conversations as a team, we realized that continuing to do anti-racism work is one of the things we can do as a group to facilitate productive conversations around big hard topics genocide and anti-Semitism.

0:05.8	but I just wanted to take a minute to say that like so many of you, I have been all consumed
0:11.9	by the genocide that is being carried out against the Palestinian people. We've put everything on
0:18.9	pause to be able to try to share updates and share actions that we

0:30.5	workers that are on the ground in Gaza. And as we were trying to decide what to do with the
0:36.3	episode that we had planned for before,
0:38.7	that's actually going to come out tomorrow, well, first I should say, as you know, I don't do this
0:43.9	alone. There's absolutely no way I could for a same basis as a team effort. I work with two other
0:49.2	moms who are just as dedicated to anti-racism as I am, and I could never do this without them, Whitney and
0:56.0	Kirsten. And the three of us have been talking every day about everything that's going on and
1:01.5	about how horrible and hard it is to feel so helpless in this situation as people who care so
1:09.3	much about what happens in our world and about the values
1:12.7	of liberation and justice. And as we were talking about what to do with the episode, one of our team
1:18.6	members said, don't you think that anti-racism is part of what helps facilitate productive conversations around big, hard topics, like genocide,
1:33.1	like anti-Semitism. And when Whitney said that, I was like, wow, you're totally right.
1:39.6	We have talked on this podcast about so many topics, especially about the stages of genocide and how
1:48.0	they can be carried out and how it has happened in the past, but also about indigenous populations
1:53.4	that have been the target of colonization and genocide. And so we wanted to move forward with
1:59.3	sharing the episode tomorrow because I take so much time
2:04.3	to talk about the real actions that we can be taking to create the liberation and justice that we
2:12.1	want to see. And it really does take intentionally doing this work over a very long period of time to make change.
