It's my pleasure to welcome you here to the Clark Howard Show where it's all about

you learning ways to save more and spend less and only whenever rip you off.

I have been stunned by the pictures and videos of people and forever lines in areas all

over the country and lines for food from food banks or food drives in areas of the

country where people are suffering from hunger.

I mean a lack of food available and a lot of people that are suffering from hunger

right now are people who've never been in that position before who've never had a

problem staying employed or anything like that but these are most unusual times and a lot

of people who've never experienced anything like that don't know how to navigate the system

and so I wanted to talk about food stamps which there aren't actually stamp books anymore.

It's a card that's referred to as the snap and the food stamp program provides subsidies

basically with the ability kind of like an electronic voucher to get food when you need it when

you've had a terrible loss of income and the idea is to make sure that you have food to eat so

you don't starve and there are people who feel very much like it's not their thing to get food stamps

but these are unusual times.

You know none of us cause coronavirus but it has had effects that it has been so severe

financially on many tens of millions of Americans and so there are a number of states where big

percent of the population are going hungry by some guesses as much as roughly 20% of people

around the country it's guess that roughly about 10% of people on average are short of food to

provide three meals a day and so food stamps are something there for you and I don't want you to have

a roadblock in your mind that keeps you from getting that now each state has its own rules and the

rules vary in terms of who qualifies and all the rest but if you are facing hardship I want you to
