The Senate now voting on a stopgap measure that would avoid a partial government shutdown at midnight.

Majority Leader John Thune earlier called on lawmakers to vote in favor so that a short-term funding bill can be put in place.

Not partisan, not complicated, simple, straightforward, clean, nonpartisan, short term.

Democratic leader Chuck Schumer called on senators to address the health care tax credits,

which are expiring.

We need to be on the side of the American people because they are on our side in terms of getting

this health care crisis fixed, one created

by the so-called big, beautiful bill, which they now want to change the name because they know

it's so unpopular.

President Trump has warned that a government shutdown could mean layoffs, not just furloughs,

across the federal government.

And the president says the administration has reached a settlement with Harvard to end investigations about anti-Semitism on campus and classroom curriculum.

Harvard is one of several universities targeted by the education department over pro-Palestinian demonstrations on campus and affirmative action admissions policies.

But President Trump says the administration

is nearing a $500 million settlement with the Ivy League institution. And they'll be operating

trade schools. They're going to be teaching people how to do AI and lots of other things.

Engines, lots of things. You know, we need people in trade schoolskos. Brown and Columbia have already agreed to multi-million

dollar fines over similar complaints.
