day after the election. As I record this, I don't know what happened. As you listen to this,

you do know what happened. So there's a bit of a schism. How are you feeling? Have we tipped into chaos?

Have we pulled ourselves back from the brink? What's happening? I don't even want to know.

Today on the program, my guest is Lynn Steger Strong, author of a new novel called Flight.

Every draft after the first draft is about making it more and more a thing I can give to

someone else, which in some ways is about killing some of the parts of it that are sort of

specific or necessary for me, but not specific or necessary

for anybody else.

And I think, which is just sort of a long-winded way of saying, I think that I sort of was

reaffirmed in the idea of art as an offering because I just felt like these writers were

giving something to me and giving something to me that was so essential and important
