It is said that Gay Brewer, upon driving up Magnolia in 1968,

pulled a hair from his head, and calmly floated it out the window of his slow-moving Buick, just so he could say that the Augusta National Golf Club could have some of his DNA.

And although the concept of DNA evidence would only be implemented years later,

gay's feelings have been shared by all,

who have had the privilege of playing their trade or

applying their trade on the rolling Emerald Fairways of Augusta

since Jesus was a little boy.

This year was no exception, and as Adam Scott packs up his green jacket and places it next

to his complimentary colored pants and shirts, among the hot pinks and canary yellows. We will wax nostalgic about another masters gone by. We are sad

but we are grateful. Sad that we will not caress our friend with our eyes for another 11 months, but grateful

that again the spirit of competition has blessed us with the comfort of knowing that we, the average, have had the special opportunity to glance briefly at the gods.

looser, free to explore. It's easy to look at the azalealine fairways and the flowering dogwoods and forget that this tournament is about men

Men who love golf and each other with a passion unequal to the

animals of romantic competition. We are all envious when we see this passion,

for we wish in some small way we could taste the sweetness of the

camaraderie, that we could touch the tanned forearms of the combatants, that we

could smell the sweat that gathers at the base of the back, pooling before it begins its
