Hello and welcome back. This is Sarah.

And this is Katie. Thank you guys for joining us yes many thanks um

you guys this this week this past month i don't you know i we're starting off rough trying to

get this conversation going nowhere to even begin and how to empathize and yeah it's it's

maybe step in at any point this is a extremely rough year and week and month and here's thing, in light of everything that's been happening,

especially the murder of George Floyd and many other black people, we decided that we should

actually speak up about the topic of racism and particularly

racism in the Mormon church. We've been wanting to cover this topic since the very

beginning, since our first episode, right? Sarah, we were like, this is a huge problem problem not only in the world, but also in Mormonism.

Yet we are both white, as you probably know. So we didn't feel like we should speak over black people.

But so that's why we haven't talked about it in detail.

I mean, we've mentioned it. We've had some amazing people write in about their experiences with racism. But we haven't done a deep dive because we didn't want to come off as insensitive.

But considering everything that's happening, I think both Sarah and I thought we should use

our platform to speak up.

And we want to be extremely, extremely clear that we aren't speaking for black people or indigenous people or people of color.

We want to just speak up and point out the problems of racism, particularly in what we know,

which is the Mormon church, and shed light on it and show solidarity in any way that we can.

Yeah, exactly.

I mean, the thing is, is Katie and I, as she's mentioned, we wanted to do this episode

from the very beginning.
