And today on the podcast, it's time for

0:21.8

a five minute Friday and it's all about winter skin. So winter skin, winter is the time

0:28.9

when your skin is definitely going to feel so sensitive and sometimes dry and irritated.

0:35.5

There are many reasons why your skin feels sensitive in the winter and the most

0:40.6

common reason is because there is less humidity in the environment. Dry skin is everybody's

0:47.8

complaint in wintertime. The outside air does not hold enough water content because cold air

holds less water in it. The inside

0:56.2

air is heated and it's dry because most environmental air inside houses is not humidified. And as a

1:04.6

1:14.2

stratum corneum or the top layer of the skin very vulnerable, makes you more sensitive, more dry, irritated,

1:21.6

flaking, cracking, small micro-fishers develop in the skin and bacteria gets in there and that can lead to irritations

1:37.3

the water that's normally present in your skin evaporates so quickly and escapes. And when enough moisture is depleted, your skin really feels the

1:47.7

symptoms of dryness, itchiness, redness, bumpiness, and rough patches. And sometimes the

1:55.7

irritations will lead to local minor infections or flare-ups of eczema, flare-ups of psoriasis.

2:02.6

So the skin is a very sensitive and finicky organism.

2:06.6

It is, of course, your biggest organ.

2:08.9

It is exposed to all the elements.

2:11.0

It's time to take different steps to take care of it in the winter.
