Welcome back everybody to The Incomparable.

I'm your host, Jason Snell, and we are convening a special historical book club to talk about a book from 1984, The Past.

Whoa, so far away, but also so futuristic. I can't believe we

never really did it. And so we're going to do it right now. You guys are all lucky. Everybody

out there listening to my voice, you're lucky because I thought about what if we just did a whole

podcast about William Gibson's 1984 novel Neuromancer.

I mean, like a podcast, like one episode per chapter.

And I was like, you know, let's just do.

Oh, Jason, I let me do later.

Maybe later.

But now let's just do an episode about neuromancer from 1984.

A hallmark book in the creation of cyberpunk. It led to many movies. Strangely, never an adaptation of Neuromancer, just faithful, inspired adaptations of things like The Matrix or Johnny Neonic, which was written by William Gisson,

this is a short story. And only now is Apple TV Plus doing an adaptation forthcoming of Nuromancer.

We'll see how that goes. But we're going to talk about the book today. Let me tell you who's

here to talk about the book. To avoid the ice and jack into the net, but get out before they flatline.
