KEY WORD:

Summary of episode:

(0:00) - Intro

If you’re listening to this episode it’s likely you’re elite and strong.

-Just over 20% of the population trains “occasionally”

-Only 3% of the population trains consistently
- So if you’re consistent, you’re elite

Most men:

  • 1 strict pullup

  • Cannot bench their bodyweight

  • Cannot squat below parallel with load

  • Cannot deadlift 2× bodyweight

Most women:

  • Cannot do one strict negative pullup

  • Bench the bar

  • Row half their bodyweight

  • Bodyweight squat past parallel

Now if you’re a trained individual Training 3+ months, the bar get’s much higher. My favorite tool here is the strength standards chart.

Just over 20% of the population trains occasionally and only one in five people.

0:05.6

So if you're already training occasionally, you're doing great.

0:07.8

Now take this in, only 3% of the world's population trains consistently.

0:13.0

So if you're consistent and you're in the gym, you're elite.

0:15.4

And what I want to say too is why not even take that a step further?

0:18.9

Why not really push to have even more ability, more

0:22.3

strength, more confidence, more longevity? And that's where being strong is so important.

0:27.3

So many people make the mistake of thinking that strength training is only beneficial for the physique.

0:32.6

So don't get me wrong. It is incredible. It shapes your body amazingly. The people that really don't realize the longevity

0:39.6

benefits are highly misguided. And the reason I say this is because they go into the gym just thinking,

0:45.1

I'm only here to get a six pack and whatever. And then they miss out on all the incredible benefits

0:49.3

that will translate over into their everyday life.

Wasabi Bobby, welcome to the fit, healthy, and most of all happy podcasts.

I'm your coach and host Josh here with his co-host and co-coach KG and I'm in the house.

And we got a really fun episode for you today. I've kind of been scared to make an episode like this because it's hard to communicate strength over audio. But now that all of our podcasts are on video, there will be charts. We'll talk about later. I will also link the website for them because I'm sure you're going to want to click it and you're going to be really interested. But today I want to talk about one of my favorite topics and that is being strong. I truly believe every person deserves to be strong.

1:35.8

And right now there's a huge longevity kick, which is actually doing wonders in terms of getting

1:40.6

people take weightlifting and strength training seriously so that they can

1:44.6

grow old with minimal wear, that they can be strong individuals so they can make sure their

1:49.7

muscle stays with them. And I think that has been a great push to get more people curious into

1:54.3

strength training. Because in the past, when you think of strength training, you may think

1:58.0

of these guys screaming in the gym, slapping each other, people putting on a ton of muscle. But as we now know, everyone deserves to be strong. And I was actually just saying to my friend in the gym the other day, I shout out to the ladies out there. The ladies out there are killing it. When I see someone in the gym who's even potentially a little bit new, I actually saw a group of them sign up the other day and they all went upstairs and they were doing great squats and B-Stance RDLs and like I think from TikTok and learning online people are doing a lot of due diligence. Whereas in the past it was mainly a bunch of bros you'd come in, you'd try to bench horribly and you'd swing around with bicep curls. So it's been great seeing the acceptance of that, seeing more people squatting, deadlifting, benching, doing pull-ups, like doing core movements that are really going to propel them forward. So I think that's amazing. And I want you to go ahead and pat yourself on the back first and foremost, because if you're listening to this episode, there's a chance that you're already elite and strong because this is a crazy statistic.
