So right from the start we've tried to throw a protective ring around our

care house. When my father first became ill I was told that a lady had been

discharged back to the care home and she had tested positive for

COVID-19. We brought the lockdown in care homes ahead of the general lockdown.

In Britain more than 11,000 people have died in care homes over the course of the COVID-19 pandemic.

At the peak of the outbreak, nearly three times as many people were dying in care homes than in a normal year, though only half of those

deaths have been put down to coronavirus itself. There is a widespread anger that care homes have

been neglected in terms of funding and access to testing and personal protective equipment.

And there's also a great deal of evidence that official advice pushed the crisis

into care homes as patients were discharged from hospital without being tested

for COVID-19.
