Summary

In December of 1988, a then-unknown, 18 year old aspiring musician was invited by a friend to a music executive’s gala and was introduced to the recently hired head a new record label called Sony. You guessed it, this week Troy will be discussing Mariah Carey’s extremely tumultuous marriage to Tommy Mattola! Troy examines how these two went from being described by the media as the music industry’s “Cinderella story” to Mariah adapting the nickname Rapunzel for being trapped by Tommy in their home, requiring permission to leave. He also takes a peek into Mariah’s career during the period and how it inspired her Butterfly album in 1997.
