Summary

On this episode of Beauty Bytes with Dr. Kay: Secrets of a Plastic Surgeon, I’m joined by Zaid K. Dahhaj, circadian biology coach, writer, and co-founder of The 2AM Podcast. After losing his father to heart disease, Zaid dedicated his work to helping others live healthier and longer by aligning with the body’s natural rhythms. We talk about how to optimize your circadian rhythm for better energy and longevity, why your body needs to modulate with the sun, the importance of sun protection in lowering cancer risk, and Zaid’s hot takes on circadian biology. If you’ve ever wondered how light, sleep, and daily habits impact your health, beauty, and longevity, this conversation is one you don’t want to miss.

Surgeon. And today's podcast is going to be so

0:21.9

interesting we have Zaid Dahaj. He is a citizen scientist. He's a champion of photo

0:28.4

biomodulation and that is saying that sunlight is actually good for you and maybe we're too

0:34.7

indoctrinated in the sunscreen. Sun is bad culture.

0:38.4

So I'm so curious.

0:39.5

I've been reading your posts and also your newsletter and just I love, he has a lot of scientific,

0:45.5

really important things to say about sun and infrared and how different light frequencies.

0:51.0

The human body has evolved to love light, actually.

0:54.1

So let's talk about it.

0:55.0

Tell me your background a little.

0:56.0

Yeah, so my background is definitely unconventional. I don't have a degree, no PhD, no certification

1:01.0

to my name, at least no centralized, quote, centralized certification. So for me, it's,

1:07.0

I've really taken an obsessive approach to understanding circadian biology and everything that has to do with light.

1:13.0

Ever since, really, my dad passed of a heart attack at the age of 51, and I was 18 at the time.

1:20.1

So for me, this is really, it goes beyond just an area of study.

1:23.9

It's really a mission for me.

1:25.3

And I think the most important thing on my end is to try to

1:28.3

educate myself and other people through this work. And so a quick breakdown of circadian biology

1:34.7

is we're essentially just talking about the 24-hour cycle that your body follows in relation to the

1:39.9

movement of the sun and the moon. And so if we look at the entire body as one system,

1:45.0

it is a circadian system, meaning you have light sensitive proteins in your skin,
