While researching for dark topic, the time of year in which crime occurred has always fascinated me.

And when it comes to January, a month where most of us find ourselves contemplating what we could do to better ourselves through the new year,

it has always struck me as unsettling when I discover a heinous crime has been committed in this month of new beginnings.

For the world's most infamous serial killer, January is where it all began.

January was the month in which he chose to start his ghastly criminal career of murdering women.

Ted Bundy likely selected January to begin killing full time.

The same way, URI target January to begin a diet or a workout routine.

But unlike URI, Ted would stick to his new lifestyle.

Dennis Raider, BTK, committed his ghastly annihilation of the Otero family in January.

Only weeks after Bundy began, BTK activated as well.

During a prolific calendar year for murder, one soaked in red-axis, 1974.

I have a fascination with 74.

The year of Amityville, the year of the High-Five murders,

the year that not only ushered in Bundy and BTK, but Missoula's Mallor, Wayne Nance as well.

Heavy zodiac activity occurred in 74.

The Casanova killer, the Santa Rosa hitchhiker murders, the Sunday morning slasher, the Lady of the Dooms.

I could go on and on when it comes to 74.
