We're listening to the beautiful mess podcast. This week we're starting a two-part

0:10.2

series about our evangelical Christian upbringing.

0:14.0

This is the first episode where I,

0:16.0

Elsie, share my story, which is traumatic and hurtful,

0:19.6

but also just bonkers at certain parts. It's vulnerable and we truly hope that it helps

0:26.1

someone or is just interesting and a new perspective that maybe you haven't heard

0:30.9

of before. So in many ways, these stories shaped our lives

0:35.6

and who we are today, and we're excited to jump in

0:38.3

and share this with you.

0:39.7

We've kind of mentioned that we were going to do these episodes and we you know decided to

0:44.6

break them up into like LC story and my story and really you'll see that some of

0:48.8

them are kind of similar because we did go to the same church and we're similar age

0:52.2

and all that.

0:54.0

But I think we both have a lot of anxiety around sharing around it.

0:58.0

One, because it's vulnerable.

0:59.2

But two, I just feel nervous to, I would never want to take away from somebody else's experience when I'm sharing my own.

1:07.9

You know, I just want to share my story and I think you feel similar but there's a lot of anxiety there because I think people

1:16.1

can take things the wrong way or I don't know take your story and then somehow apply it to their life which is really not

1:24.0

always the best thing so I don't know yes on that note I'll start my disclaimer

1:29.9

now so you know we love a disclaimer. It's one of our signature moves. So my thing I ask, this is a very

1:38.4

vulnerable episode. It's horrible to talk about this stuff, but I do think it's important. I do think it's interesting and at this point in our lives I think we're far enough removed where like it makes sense for us to talk about it.

1:49.8

What I would ask is like please just let this be my story and in Emma's episode, let it be Emma's story.
