Summary

In this episode, Tai Lopez explores one of the biggest questions in philosophy, psychology, and modern science: Do humans really have free will?

Drawing on ideas from genetics, evolutionary biology, history, and entrepreneurship, Tai discusses how inherited traits and environmental factors shape success, personality, and decision-making. He examines the balance between ambition and acceptance, explaining why understanding both biological limits and personal agency can lead to better outcomes in business, relationships, and mental well-being.

Listeners will hear perspectives on cultural differences in risk-taking, the psychology of control and stress, and the practical idea of maximizing your genetic potential. This episode offers a wide-ranging look at how people can navigate uncertainty, pursue meaningful goals, and develop resilience in a rapidly changing world.

Do humans have free will? Do we have free will? This is the one of the core questions that

0:08.4

everybody has to come to grips with. I think it's both a simple and a complex question

0:17.1

and answer. And that's the reason why like Sigmund Freud says and civilization is discontents, oftentimes

0:25.6

the reason there's no simple answer is because it's impossible to fully answer.

0:31.6

Right?

0:32.6

He was asked, you know, what's the purpose of life?

0:34.6

And he said the reason there's so many theories is probably there isn't an exact answer.

0:40.7

Now, with free will, there's been tremendous philosopher, debate, polarity, different philosophers

as this. When we look at heritability genetically of something, let's say IQ, IQ is probably, let's say, somewhere between 60 to 70% or 0.6.7 heritability.

1:19.6

That means if you take a group of people, a thousand people, you can explain 60% or 70% of that group's IQ by who their parents were and grandparents were.

1:32.3

Their genetics, not their environment.

1:34.7

You can explain the other 40% of that group of 1,000 by, you know, did they get enough food growing up?

1:43.4

How was their education?

1:45.1

Were they stimulated mentally as they were growing up and so on and so forth?

1:48.6

So we can see that the genetic part is the non-free will part.

1:55.3

You're genetically limited.

1:58.3

Me and you are probably not going to surpass Sir Isaac Newton, Stephen Hawking,

2:05.1

or Albert Einstein when it comes to raw IQ. Right. And so everybody is okay with that concept.

2:13.8

It's kind of funny. You know, everybody knows it. Something like your eye color is 100%

genetic, meaning environment has almost nothing to do with it. There's almost no free will about
