Summary

For Sep 8 (Feast of the Birthday of the Virgin), Dr. Taylor Marshall reads the account of Mary’s birth found in the Protoevangelium of James. The Protoevangelium of James is a 2nd-century “gospel” recording Mary’s miraculous conception, her childhood and marriage to Joseph, the journey of the holy couple to Bethlehem, and the nativity of Christ. It is apocryphal and Pope Innocent I in 405 rejected it from the canon of Sacred Scripture. But it is one of the most ancient Christian texts outside of Scripture and does contain authentic Tradition. 0:06.9	In the Catholic Church today commemorates and celebrates the birth of the Blessed Virgin
0:13.4	Mary.
0:14.4	We believe that her parents' names were St. Joeachem, her father, and St. Anna, or St.
0:20.8	Anne, her mother.
0:21.8	And today I'm going to read the first few chapters from the Proto-Gospel or the Proto-Evangelium

0:30.1	It's an apocryphal work.
0:32.2	It was actually condemned in 405 by Pope Innocent I as not being sacred scripture.

1:17.3	It teaches that Mary was a virgin before, during, and after the birth of Jesus Christ.
1:24.0	It also teaches that she was dedicated in the temple as a young girl at the age of three.
1:30.1	And many other things that we know to be true about the blessed Virgin Mary, sacred traditions
