Summary

Late season on public land is a whole different game. In this episode, Johnny Stewart breaks down how mature bucks survive heavy pressure, how cold weather and snow shift movement, and why late-season hunts are won around food, wind, and smart access. If deer have gone “nocturnal” where you hunt, this is the playbook to get back in the game. Got a question for the show? You know, cell cameras are super popular these days. I use them. Jacob uses them. I know a lot of you guys use them as well.

0:05.9

Let me tell you something that will save you a little bit of a headache when it comes to cell cameras. That is the cell coverage layer from Onex Hunt. You can turn that layer on and view how the cell coverage is on any property or even certain parts of properties. Now that's helpful for cell cameras because I might be going to an area where I want to put a camera out and I can just before I leave, go ahead and look at the map, see if I've got good enough cell coverage in there. If it's got cell coverage, okay, I'll bring a cell camera. If it doesn't, all right, bring it a normal camera. I know I've been burned a bunch of times bringing a dagum cell camera somewhere and then getting there and then not having any service that's frustrating well this layer from onex hunt remedies that also it's just useful for

0:42.7

planning trips in general you know knowing whether or not you're going to have cell coverage to

0:46.2

call family in case something goes wrong and then of course also if you see that there's no cell

coverage in an area you know you need to go ahead and download that map for offline use on OnX. If you want to check out that layer and a whole bunch of others from OnX Hunt, go get you an elite membership and use the promo code Southern at checkout. It's going to get you a 20% discount and it's going to help us out here at the Southern Outdoorsman podcast. So you'll go check it out. Stay safe this season and know where you stand with OnX Hunt.

I'm super excited to announce that Vortex just updated their Crossfire Riflescope line with the Crossfire HD rifle scopes.

1:20.0

These are an improvement over the previous design that delivers sharper detail improving low light transmission, giving you a lot more confidence with your hunt.

If you're wanting an effective rifle scope, that gives you great low light capability without

1:31.3

breaking the bank, check out the new Crossfire HD scope from Vortex.

If you're wanting to free up some weight this fall, but also be quite getting in and out of your tree and even packing around,

1:51.8

you need to check out the latitude. Carbon S.S. Climbing sticks have been awesome to use over this past season,

1:59.0

guys. They are very lightweight at one pound per stick,

2:02.1

18 inches long. They are super, super easy to put on the tree. But even best yet, they have no

2:08.8

metal in them so they're extremely quiet. That's the one thing I love about these sticks. All the

2:13.1

sticks I've used in the past are mostly made out of aluminum. You had to tape them up. You had to

2:16.9

do something to them in order to keep them quiet. Because if you did it, whether brush hit it or they hit together or hit anything else, there was a loud metal ting. Well, with these carbon sticks, there's none of that. It's a very subtle thud sound when they hit together or brush up against anything else. And I always tell people, it sounds almost like a black rack rattling antlers

2:34.4

if you hit them together. I really like these sticks. Also, with them being carbon, they are very

2:39.8

warm to the touch, even on the coldest days, and they pack really well together. So if you're looking

2:44.4

for some lightweight sticks to stay mobile this fall, check out the carbon SS climbing sticks from

latitude outdoors.com.
