Now here's Paul Tripp in John 8.

Today, you don't have to live like a slave.

You don't have to live like you have no power to say no to sin,

to say no to the evil lies of the enemy.

Well, I want to read for you, John 8, 31 through 38.

So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed on him, if you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples.

And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.

They answered him, we are offspring of Abraham and the truth will set you free. They answered him,

we are offspring of Abraham and have never been enslaved to anyone. How is it that you say

you will become free? Jesus answered them, truly, truly I say to you, everyone who practices

sin is a slave to sin. The slave does not remain in the house forever. If the son remains forever, so if the son set

you free, you will be free indeed. I know that you are offspring or Abraham, yet you seek to kill me because my word

finds no place in you. I speak of what I have seen with my father, and you do what you have heard from your father.

These words of Jesus come at the end of his declaring himself to be the light of the world,

the son of the father, the son of man who would be lifted up.

And remember there's a divided crowd, those who believe and those who do not believe in him.
