Summary

Today we are hitting some listener Q&A submissions: How do you know what buck to hold out for? How do you e-scout land out of state that you can't put boots on the ground on? How do you determine a bucks path of travel? We also cover tracking Jacob's Iowa buck, and some major shifts happening right now across much of the southeast when it comes to deer movement. One thing we talk about with almost every guest on this show is map scouting. My favorite map scouting tool is LIDAR. If you're unfamiliar, LIDAR is basically like a 3D scan of the Earth surface. I like to say it kind of takes away all the surprises. LIDAR is now available on OnX Hunt on their topography map. If you go to your app right now, click on the topography map, you can flip on that LIDAR feature and boom it's going to come on and you're going to see what I'm talking about.

0:24.3

The LIDAR is going to allow you to see things that are normally hidden from view. This might be ditches, bends in creeks, rocks, old roadbeds. I personally love old roadbeds because deer like to walk them. They're great places to find scrapes. They're great camera locations. And you know before, an old roadbed or an old logging road might be something that you kind of happen upon while you're out scouting or hunting. Well now with the LIDAR, before I go into an area, I can turn on that LIDAR and I can see exactly where those road beds are. Even old logging roads from the 1930s, you can still see them on there. So that allows me to go straight to those spots and check them out. It's just an incredibly helpful tool, and it's available now on Onex Hunt. And hey, if you want to get 20% off your OnX Elite membership, you can use the promo code Southern. Like I said, it's going to save you 20%. Go check out that

LiDR feature. You'll be glad you did. Know where you stand with OnX Hunt. I'm super excited to

your order of any vortex optics. One of the most common questions we get is from people who are

1:53.1

looking to get into mobile white tail hunting. They're looking at saddles, but they don't know

1:56.8

which one to get. They don't know how to get comfortable in a saddle. And I always recommend

2:00.5

the Lone Star saddle from latitude outdoors. One thing you'll hear from a lot of people when they first get into saddle hunting is they deal with a little bit of hip pinch. That's just basically where you don't have your saddle adjusted right, and so it's kind of pinching your hips when you're sitting in the tree. It's really uncomfortable. It can take some fine-tuning to get a lot of saddles right where they're comfortable to sit in, but with that Lone Star saddle, it has a hip-pinch reduction system built into the saddle. Basically, what that means is that right out of the box, this thing's going to be very, very comfortable, whether you're doing a quick early-season bow hunt or if you're planning on sitting in that joker all day long in the rut. That Lone Star saddle is personally my

2:34.3

favorite saddle and especially if you're newer getting into saddle hunting and you're looking

2:38.1

for something easy and comfortable, check out that Lone Star from Latitude. So to go look at the

Lone Star and a whole bunch of other mobile whitetail gear, check out latitude outdoors.com.

My thing is I'm always looking for travel coming in and out of a thicket, but also paralleling a thicket and put myself up against something that they're probably not going to walk through, like just more open woods.

2:59.6

It's not that big of a deal of one comes from behind me because hopefully I'm going to hear them quite a ways away and I can get a shot before hopefully they smell me but I'm kind of

3:09.4

watching the edge of that cover or where a couple different cover types going to go. All right, everybody, it's Thursday Q&A time.

3:43.2

We just got back from Iowa.

3:44.8
