Hi, this is Jen Rubin and this is Jen Rubin's green room.

We are in the home stretch two weeks to go.

Monday was a very interesting day because we had one of the strongest contrasts of the campaign.

On one hand, you had Kamala Harris and Liz Cheney sitting down in three separate conversational

settings, in three swing states, talking for 40 minutes or so about national security,

about the rule of law, about the requirements of the presidency, about abortion, about finding

common ground, about the qualities we need in a president.

They plainly did not agree on every issue, but in the way they interacted with one another,

you could imagine a better kind of politics. One were decent people, enter public office,

and actually try to work on problems,

try to see issues from the other point of view, try to figure out even on issues like abortion where there is a wide gap if there's some common ground. When Liz Cheney acknowledged that

the abortion bans in the wake of Dobbs were making it difficult, if not impossible, for women to get care,

that was an intelligent conversation by a sincere person who was willing to confront reality.

And Kamala Harris, to her credit, did not say, well, what did you expect?

We told you so. She said, well, I don't know that all Republicans thought that this would be the case,

but at least we now recognize there's a problem. That's how adults problem solved. That's how you

deal with neighbors and friends

and grownups in your own life. And it was so refreshing because it was so civil, it was so decent.

And the questions from the audience were intelligent. You found like you were back on planet Earth,

on something that approximated democracy that made

you somewhat proud to be an American in a system in which politics can aspire to something

better than what we've had. And then on the other side, we got replays of Donald Trump at McDonald's.
