I knew Kwame and Wachie was a great chef and storyteller, but I did not know.

He had such smooth pipes.

Anyway, that was Kwame singing the dulcet tones of Mother's Day,

so happy Mother's Day to all mothers, children, and people with mother figures.

And for the mothers, we hope you get to spend it exactly the way you want.

Our dear friend Melissa Clark, a mother herself with a kid's cookbook, no less,

will be with us a little later with an unusual and frankly kind of brilliant Mother's Day tradition. We eavesdrop in a conversation

between a mother, Caroline Shin, and her mom, Chungja, about a Korean soup you make for moms

right after they give birth. And of course, we have Chef Kwame. Honestly, when our producers

and I were talking about what we want to do for a Mother's Day show,

our first thought was to call Kwame.

It's because in his memoir notes from a young black chef,

he writes about how he got his start in the kitchen,

watching his mother do catering gigs for music videos out of their home.

And she's continued to work as a chef as he's gone on to win a James Beard Award and start a new role as executive producer for food and wine.

So we wanted to get the two together. Tell us more about their relationship.
