Hey, it's Mentally Chill Podcast Time. Welcome back to the show. It's 9 o'clock in the morning. I know I'm normally not up at this time, but I couldn't sleep for whatever reason. So it's 9 o'clock. And someone's mowing their lawn. I think that's a little bit assuming that everyone has their lives together and that we're all awake, that it's okay to mow your lawn. I think that's a little bit assuming that everyone has their lives together and that

0:22.0

we're all awake, that it's okay to mow your lawn. There should be a law where they have some

0:27.1

respect for people who may not have it together and you can't mow your lawn until at least

0:32.3

11 a.m. That should be a law. So I hope you guys can't hear the sound of the lawnmower. But you know,

0:40.0

in the suburbia world that I'm in currently, there's just constant lawnmowers, which is good

0:48.9

because then it drowns out the sounds of everyone crying. Just kidding. No, people have very pleasant lives here.

0:56.0

I'm the one whose tears are being drowned out by the sounds of lawnmowers and weed whackers and leaf blowers and all the things that give my dad things to do.

1:17.7

phenomenon or experience that he had called conversion disorder, which is a condition where a person

1:24.1

has blindness, paralysis, or other neurological symptoms that cannot be explained

1:28.6

by medical evaluation and can be triggered by a reaction to stress or psychological trauma.

1:37.1

It's not always the case, but could be the case.

1:40.2

And that's what Dan experienced.

1:41.9

He didn't experience the blindness, but he had tingling, loss of muscle control, stuff like that.

1:46.5

We also talk about the 30-day Stoic Challenge, which is not what I thought it would be, which I thought by the name, it would just be people putting their emotions away and acting strong for 30 days. But what it is

2:02.6

is 30 actionable challenges per day, a different challenge a day. And it's rooted in stoic philosophy.

2:10.7

And what is stoic philosophy, you ask? Well, I have an answer for you. Not off the top of my head,

2:16.4

but off of the computer because I am

2:18.3

staring at Google. And stoic philosophy teaches the development of self-control and fortitude

2:24.8

as a means of overcoming destructive emotions. So if you're having destructive emotions,

2:31.6

the stoic challenge is a good thing to do. The 30 day stoic challenge.
