Summary

John and Craig consider all the words they have to write and ask, how do you know when something deserves your best effort? They offer a useful rubric for deciding when something is worth perfecting, and when over-optimization is a waste of time.

We also follow up on compulsive writing habits, industry euphemisms, back issues, and the impact and legacy of the WGA's 2019 agency negotiations.

In our bonus segment for premium members, it's a new year! John looks back at things he accomplished in 2025 and his goals for 2026, while Craig sighs and gestures in the direction of The Last of Us.

through what I did last year and why and my list for this new year. So organized. So organized. I try to be. Yeah, no, that's you. I don't remember the last time I made a New Year's resolution. Yeah, and so we've talked about it. I used to have not resolutions, but areas of interest. So like archery would make my area of interest. So I would do archery for a bit. So the thing we do now is Mike and I make a list of 25 or 26 things that together we're going to do over the course of the year. And we do those because we're efficient people who like knock things off lists. It's terrifying. I strongly recommend it for people. Also, in the bonus segment, I want to talk through what those are because the key is achievable, doable things.
