Professor Kroen is a history professor at the university and in this episode he illustrates that there's a straight line

from the Jim Crow South in segregation to the Nazi party over in Germany who were deeply influenced

by America and our racist laws.

In turn, the Nazi party in Germany then re-influenced the far right in America

in sort of a perpetual feedback loop that has existed ever since.

Professor Kroen was on vacation in Los Angeles and was nice enough to let me come over to

his Airbnb to record this episode so it being

Los Angeles you might hear a helicopter or to fly overhead because this is Los Angeles

and for some reason we decided to make the sky loud.

Hi, nice to be here.

So I was looking at your academic work and what I'd like to do today is to draw a sort of a straight line from the American South, Civil War, reconstruction, Jim Crow, segregation

to the Nazis who actually studied these things. And I was looking at your academic work and you kind of tie that into what's going on in the American right wing today.

Would you say that that's an accurate connection that you can make?

Absolutely. There's, well people are very aware, I guess, of how popular Naziism is in a certain group of the American

right.
