Welcome back, everybody, to The Incomparable.

I am your host, Jason Snell.

You know, I've been doing this podcast since August of

2010. So 13 plus years, it's a long time. And there were two things that I dearly love

that I wanted to talk about on episodes that I have not for 700 episodes. Last year, just before we hit 700, I finally did the

Max Headroom episode, one of my favorite TV shows. Finally, it was on streaming. We could actually do it.

And what's the hold up for this other one? The answer is, it was a movie that we were waiting

for it to come out on some format that was not standard death

with a very, very extreme letterbox where you couldn't see anything.

And there was no HD release for the longest time,

except for like an HBO version that was not the right cut.

And finally, I'm happy to report that on digital now as we record this and

shortly to also be available on disc in ultra high death, 4K, HDR, all of all the things

is a movie that I've been wanting to talk about for 700 episodes. And finally we get to do it.

It is 1989's The Abyss, directed by James Cameron, written by a spunky little up-and-coming

screenwriter named James Cameron, who would go on to make successively the highest grossing

movie of all time.

Yeah, twice.
