You never saw it coming. It sneaked up on you, like the first solar snow of the cycle. You slowly look up from the blade piercing your belly into the eyes of a Space Marine. You spit. They are filthy creatures, brainwashed servants of a Corpse-Emperor. You raise your pistol for one last shot, and your vision fades. In a violent torrent, you burst out of your body. The Empyrean calls, and you feel drawn to its crooning. And yet, something holds you back. Something begins to tug you the other way, back toward reality. You... twist and turn, and there it is, your new haven. Shining as bright as a thousand suns it overtakes your senses, until you see nothing else. Piece by infinitesimally small piece you are drawn into this Stone. This protected place. As the tumult of this experience wanes, you take comfort in the knowledge that She who Thirsts has been denied your soul. Your Path of the Dead has begun.
