Is it the long, bleak winters? Is there something in the vodka? Did Stalin's

tortures drive every survivor crazy? Who knows? But the following specimens certainly did

nothing to mend the damage Russian incurred to its international image.

It was 1980 and the Summer Olympics were underway in Moscow.

The United States boycotted the event due to Cold War political tensions.

That boycott just might have saved some American lives, for there was a bloodbath going

on in the streets of a town called Alma-Ata Kazakhstan,

and the tides could very well have swept up on the shores of Moscow.

The Russian media, which was state-controlled at the time, insisted that there could be no serial killer because no such

phenomena could occur in Russia. They characterized it as something that happened within

decadent Western societies like the United States. Granted, most of the serial killers
