Summary

The amazing true story of two female pirates, Ann Bonny and Mary Read, who served as active, swashbuckling buccaneers for two weeks in 1720 under Captain Jack Rackam and were captured , tried and found guilty in Jamaica, where they pleaded "full bellies"- were spared the noose, but confined to jail. 0:47.0	As many of our long time listeners know, my favorite place to hang out is the Outer Banks
0:51.0	of North Carolina, a long stretch of barrier islands off the
0:54.2	North Carolina coast that divide the mainland from the Atlantic Ocean, all
0:58.1	connected by one long narrow highway, Route 12.
1:02.5	The Outer Banks appeals to me with its wide sandy beaches, great surfishing, four-wheel drive access,
1:08.6	wild horses that roam free, at least on the north end around Corolla.
1:12.1	A lighthouse, marinas, little resort towns like Avon and Buxton and Hatters.
1:17.5	Endless dunes taught with sea grass and history.
1:21.1	Lots of history. If we arrive on Kocina Beach just a little south of Nagg's head
1:26.6	early enough in the morning, we can stand by the water's edge and look up and down the wide
1:30.8	beach as far as the eye can see and not see a single soul.
1:34.8	Then it's time to break out the beach chairs and blankets and hot coffee and relax.
1:39.9	The sound of the breakers is therapy.
1:43.0	I call it God's country for beach people, and it is.
1:47.0	As for the history, the outer banks are home to Roano colony, also called the Lost Colony Colony the first English settlement in the new world
