Fears of a devastating tsunami faded Wednesday for the U.S. and Japan after a powerful earthquake struck near Russia's far east.

Many warnings expired yesterday. U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Kristy Noem. We saw waves in Alaska and in Hawaii that were minimal, graded is how they talked about them.

Some parts of Hawaii saw waves of about five or six feet, but nothing like the truly dangerous swells that the islands were bracing for.

The tsunami warning gave Japan quite the scare and forced nearly 2 million people to evacuate

their homes for higher ground. The 8.8 magnitude earthquake was one of the strongest ever,
