Summary

The Big 12 made huge news during Media Days by announcing they are pushing forward in the process to expand. Bruce and Stew are joined by Sports Illustrated's Pete Thamel to break all of this down plus evaluate the candidates who could join. The guys then discuss how Baylor starred at Big 12 Media Days, and not in a good way.

Welcome back to the latest edition of the Audible.

I am Bruce Feldman, joined as always by my colleague Stuart Mandel.

And we are taping on Wednesday morning.

I just got back from Big 12 Media Days. and as often is the case, the Big 12 threw a

0:25.3

curveball at the rest of college sports.

0:28.6

Stu, where's your head spinning when you were on that conference call yesterday?

0:33.0

Boy, did that throw us for a loop, and I feel a little bit stupid.

0:36.2

You know that Twitter account

0:37.8

that exposes sports writers wrong takes I may have set a record for how quickly I got exposed

0:44.5

because I want to say 15 minutes where the call started you know I said something like you know

0:50.2

they I think somebody had tweeted you know this is expected to be a much to do

0:55.6

about nothing. And I kind of reiterated what I said in the past, which was, you know, they

1:00.1

lost their incentive to expand when they added the championship game and said they're not

1:03.9

doing conference network. And then 15 minutes later, it's like, hold the phone. You know,

1:09.3

David Bourne comes on and says, okay, we had a productive meeting. Now, remember, we thought that the more newsworthy thing about this call was going to be Baylor. Baylor had to make a presentation, you know, basically appeased the presidents that they're actually, you know, going to do the right thing going forward. They kind of glanced over that. Not glanced over, but said, oh, that

1:27.8

went very well. And then in terms of that other issue, yeah, we've told Bob Bolsey to go ahead and

1:33.2

pursue expansion, 12 teams, 14 teams. I mean, anytime realignment comes up, obviously, it's a big

1:40.0

deal in our world, but rarely have I, it rarely has there been a moment quite like this where

1:45.1

they basically got on the call and said, yep, we're open for bidding, you know, like we're

1:50.7

proceeding with this and anybody who's interested give us a call. So, obviously nothing gets the,

1:59.5

the juice is flowing more than expansion candidates and realignment.

2:03.7

And we want to bring on a good guest here, our friend Pete Dammel from Sports Illustrated,
