So I'm watching a lot of these feel good stories about the soccer players returning

home and going back to school and everything like that. And that's all great. I mean, I'm all for them getting rescued. But at least none of the stories I've seen ever even touch on the fact that there a lot of them may might be weeks before they ever sleep without crying or having nightmares or maybe the rest of their lives.

Oh, you're messing with the narrative, the story arc. We have a story arc here. It was scary. It was dangerous. Now it's happy because that's an unbelievable trauma. Right.

0:59.9

Days and days and days of facing death as a youngster. Oh God. Yeah. Oh my God.

1:07.1

And the dark dwell on that. But to just make a mother home and everything's good. It's like when Elizabeth Smart got, you know, founder and the various people like that. Come on. Let's let's be real about simple tens of the media.

1:18.7

Oh, here's a complex man indeed. Jim Roup of Westwood one reporting on the anti Islamophobia program lawsuit in beautiful San Diego, San Diego unified. Hello, Jim. How are you, sir?

1:32.0

I'm very well. Good morning. Glad to have you with us. So if you could why don't we give just a quick catch up for folks who've not been following this story. What's the lawsuit all about?

1:43.3

Okay. Well, a year ago, the San Diego unified school district and an attempt to address a report, a study that was said to them by the council on American Islamic relations that bullying.

1:58.3

And bullying, uh, Muslim students are being bullied on campuses. So they contacted care and said, how do we help with this? And so they adopted this anti Muslim bullying policy on top of their already broad based program to prevent bullying in the school.

2:16.3

And let me jump in just very quickly, Jim and let the listening audience. So we'll be talking about care at length when Jim exits, but Jim go ahead.

2:26.3

So what the lawsuit now is in the fact that they, they believe parents, this group of parents believes that care has too much influence in public schools in San Diego that they have purchased a lot of library books on Islamic culture that teachers are given resources on Islam.

2:49.3

All the Muslim holidays are now on the calendar for for staff, so on and so forth. And the parents are saying, wait a minute.

2:57.3

We looked back at the records and we saw that there were two back in 2016, actually one in 2015 and one in 2016, two incidents of a Muslim student being bullied in the entire school system. Are you saying?

3:11.3

Yeah, in the entire public school system in San Diego, whereas they found 11 instances of Jewish kids being bullied at school because of their religion specifically as the records indicate.

3:23.3

So they're wondering why there isn't a program specifically helping people to understand the Jewish culture along with the Muslim culture or the Catholic culture, Lutheran culture, whatever it may be, African American culture, whatever Hispanic culture, they're wondering why that's not.

3:38.3

Or how about the scrawny goofy looking kid culture that gets bullied? Right, right. And how San Diego unified could be so dumb and so politically correct and so fearful that they went ahead and took the cram downs from care.

3:53.3

I know some of the policies were either stopped immediately or weren't implemented. Others were good.

4:00.3

San Diego Unified claims that they stopped communicating with care, but the lawyer for this group of parents found several emails that would indicate that that's not the case that there are still communication going on.

4:13.3

There's still influence that is happening from care to the San Diego Unified and the lawyer for the school district says, look, we don't promote any one religion over another.

4:24.3

Everyone's welcome to come and talk to us, but we have been told that when certain groups do reach out to the school district, they're either put on an agenda in future meetings or they say, OK, yeah, let's meet and then the meeting is never set up.

4:40.3

So there is they believe that Islam is being favored in this group of parents believe that Islam is being favored over anything and everything and the in that school district in San Diego.

4:52.3

How many years we've been talking to you, Jim, it's been a long time, hadn't it? Yeah, yeah, very long time. I'm thinking like Michael Jackson trial. I mean, we've got stories going way, way back.
