An urgent message to the incoming Senate Majority Leader.

Current Majority Leader Chuck Schumer with this to John Thune.

It will be the responsibility of the incoming Republican majority to protect the Senate against any attempt to erode its authority.

This is Thune is facing pressure from President-elect Trump to put the Senate into an extended recess

so Trump could push through some cabinet appointees to get around the Senate confirmation process.

Schumer says Democrats stand ready to work with Republicans to provide what's known as advice and

consent for the nominees.

The incoming Congress is sworn in January 3rd.

The Senate begins vetting the nominees from that point on.

Closing arguments from the prosecution said to resume tomorrow in the trial of Daniel Penny,

who's charged with manslaughter and the death of Jordan Neely,

who Penny put in a chokehold after authorities say he threatened passengers on a New York

City subway. Telling jurors, there's no disputing that when Jordan Neely got on the subway last

year, subway riders were very frightened. But they said Marine veteran Daniel Penny kept his chokehold

for far too long. So they're arguing to jurors that Penny's initial chokehold was justified

but became unjustified when he continued his hold on Neely after the subway doors opened

and passengers were free to leave. Box the CB Cotton outside the courthouse in Manhattan.

In earlier testimony, an expert witness for the defense said a number of factors led to Neely's death,

including drug use and a genetic condition. Harvey Weinstein has been taken to a New York City

hospital for treatment after what his lawyer says was an alarming test result that required
