Hello everyone and welcome to another edition of Mormon Stories podcast.

It is January 24th, 2017. My name is John Dillin and we are here to interview someone who I think is a really...

1:07.0

I would say she's a pioneer in modern Mormonism, that's just my bias.

1:12.0

But she's been involved in all sorts of really important things. Her name is Nadine Hansen or Nadine McCombs Hansen?

1:22.0

McCombs, sorry, McCombs.

1:26.0

And let me just list a few of the reasons why I think you'll be interested in Nadine.

1:33.0

Nadine, you know, she's been a member of the church her whole life, but she was around enough to sort of have been raised in the church to have experienced the equal rights amendment sort of, you know, issues.

1:51.0

Related to the church in the late 70s, she became aware of Sunstone and Dialogue. Around that time, she's been involved in publishing articles for Dialogue and for Sunstone and being involved in Sunstone presentations for a long time.

She's been, I would say, an activist for LGBT rights within the church for decades, but also for feminism in the church and female ordination.

2:23.0

But she's also fascinating because she obtained a lot of degree while she was, you know, a Mormon mom.

2:32.0

And her legal work, interestingly enough, has been to sort of act as a protector to the children of FLDS families. And we'll talk more about that as well.

2:44.0

But she's served as the Guardian Ad Lightem. Is that right?

2:48.0

I've been a Guardian Ad Lightem in a couple of cases involving FLDS children, but in a broader sense to children in a number of different kinds of situations.

3:00.0

Yeah, and that's fascinating. And she's just been a really active participant in everything that's been going on.

3:10.0

Incidentally, her daughter is Laura Compton, who I started a group called Mormons for Emergy Quality or Mormons for Equality way back in the day.

3:22.0

And then her son-in-law is Todd Compton, the author of a few books, but in sacred loneliness, in sacred loneliness will be one that a lot of people are aware of.

3:33.0

So there's just so much to talk about with Nadine. If you guys have seen my interview with Carolyn Pearson or Bill Bradshaw or Christine Jepsen Clark, it's one of those epic stories.
