Perhaps it's easy to smile in the light.

But what do you do when the night comes and it will come?

What do you do when trouble comes that you were unprepared for and that you do not understand?

What do you do in those moments when it seems like God is distant

and the heavens are brass?

What do you do when you feel alone and under attack?

What do you do when it seems like no one knows and no one understands like faith flickers as if it's going to go out.

Turn in your order of worship, I believe it's to page 9 to Psalm 42. This is a Psalm of spiritual struggle,

a Psalm of the wrestling of the soul. This is an honest and provocative psalm.

Perhaps it's in the Bible to unsettle us.

It's in the Bible to alert us that perhaps the life of faith is not always one of celebration and joy

yes this is part of the walk of faith.

Perhaps this psalm was written during the Babylonian captivity.

It has a lot of that feel.
