deception at Jopah. In this episode we recount a semi-legendary tale, the capture of the city of Jopa.

It took place, supposedly, in the reign of Tutmos III, and became part of the legacy of that time.

The capture of Jopa survives on a single papyrus written about 200 years after Tutmoes the third,

and it is heavily fragmented. What survives

seems to be the second half of the story we are missing the beginning. Still there's

enough there for a lively tale, a tale of cunning, deception, and skill in warfare.

The episode is structured in three parts.

First, the introduction and context of the story. Secondly, the story itself and finally an analysis of some of the characters that appear. Without further ado, let's begin. Let me set the scene a bit.

Around 1472 B.C. Reginal year 23 or so,
