Since in the southern hemisphere, it's actually the winter solstice.

Many pagans today call this the holiday of litha, which basically means gentle or navigable,

and litha was actually the word for the months of summer when the winds were gentle and

helped people navigate in northern Europe.

According to scholar Patty Wengton, early pagans of your in Ireland, for example,

celebrated mid-summer by setting large wheels on fire and then rolling them down a hill
