Modern ideas of law enforcement have a lot to do with the formation of the federal police system in the early 1900s. One man managed to become director of the FBI in his 20s, and get appointed to the position for life. He ran the bureau for 50 years, increasing its power and reach for 5 decades, nonstop. It should be obvious on the face of it that every time law enforcement gets more power, citizens lose more rights. Police in America used to look a lot like Barny Fife. These days many police departments look much closer to the military than they do Mayberry RFD.
This is the account of a man who must have known Willy Wonka. How else could he have obtained the golden ticket? I wonder if he was ever nominated for an academy award?
