Welcome back to old time radio, mystery, suspense, and horror.

I've got a good one for you today from The Shadow, and the title of this

one is The Black Abbot. Now, when I was putting this episode together, I was wondering what an

abbot was. So I looked it up. An abbot is the title given to the superior of a community

of 12 or more monks. Abits are in charge of a monastery and control the monastery's possessions,

discipline of the monks, and they give blessings.

The name is derived from Aba, which is the Syriac form of the Hebrew Ab, and means father.

One more thing I want to say before we get into today's play, this particular episode from

The Shadow was in pretty poor quality. I've cleaned it up as best as I can. Keep in mind that

this is a play from 1938. And if you really think about it, we're really lucky and fortunate just to have a radio

program from 1938 still in existence, period. And that is still listenable. However, if you just can't tolerate the lower quality, feel free to

skip this episode, but I wanted to still air it for those of you that may still be interested.

It's not that the quality is terrible. It's just not great either. But if you can look past that,

I really think that you'll enjoy today's play. All right, well, let's go ahead and get into it.
