Hey, everybody. Got a great one today, you know, for a change. And this time, I mean it.

Because this time, I finally have a guest who has a harrowing personal story that he can tell us about in an entertaining way. Jason Kander is my guest. If you pay close

attention to national politics, you may very well know Jason from his 2016 race for the U.S.

Senate in Missouri, a race he lost by just 2.8% to a longtime incumbent Republican Roy Blunt.

Hillary Clinton lost Missouri by 19 points.

Jason outperformed Hillary by 16 percentage points in Missouri.

Jason made a viral ad that cycle.

He was the guy who assembled an AR-15 blindfolded while talking about the

need for background checks. He could do that because he had been an Army intelligence officer

who served in Afghanistan. Now, I'm going to play the audio of this ad, just the audio,

of course, this is a podcast. Now, it's set in a empty warehouse.

The key here, of course, is he's blindfolded,

and the most impressive part of the ad is, of course, the visual.

He's assembling an AR-15 blindfolded,

but I want you to listen to the audio for two aspects of his

performance. First, his voice, his delivery. Very steady, no nonsense, perfectly pitched. But I also

want you to listen to the assembly of the gun. It's assembling the gun. As a performer myself, I was so impressed with his

timing. It's very subtle, unless you're paying attention. He times the delivery of his lines and

the assembly of the gun so that the loudest maneuvers occur in holes in the dialogue.

And he does that for clarity and for emphasis.
