One of the earliest films of our generation that we can recall doing so. The film expertly tackles nuanced, touchy topics like police brutality, racial profiling, and black power in a manner that feels real and relevant. It’s no surprise then that it has stood the test of time and made a lasting impression on audiences since its release in 1989.  fire.  So now, let’s tackle our question – did anyone do the right thing? Omar feels the Mayor was the lone character in the film that did but some could find his flaws as well. Each character had different and often conflicting motivations, making it impossible to answer this question definitively. What we all can agree on is that nobody in the film is without fault. We can observe how each character’s decisions – no matter how good their intentions – escalate the already tense situation.  Do The Right Thing is an excellent example of how difficult conversations about race can be, but also how important it is to engage in them. Its message remains as relevant today as it was 30 years ago, and we invite you to join us in discussing the complex issues raised by this classic film.  Thank you for watching, remember to like and subscribe, and share your thoughts with us in the comments below!  This concludes our Black History Month films, thanks for rocking with us, hope you enjoyed them all!  If you have or haven’t seen it already, be sure to check it out on digital and disc from UPHE.com.
