Luke Savage, welcome back, everyone. How was your Canadian Thanksgiving?

Well, you know, my dad calls it that. I still just call it Thanksgiving.

I was just in the United States this past week, and I was explaining to people that I had to get home the next day for Canadian Thanksgiving.

And first of all,

they were all surprised that we have Thanksgiving on a different day than they do, which, you know,

says a lot about the United States, I think. They think the world revolves around them. Then again,

I mean, we've adopted their society. We've adopted their politics and culture to such an extent that it's vanity that we keep Thanksgiving in October. I mean, I was going to say, in this case, I think they

sort of have us, because Thanksgiving is an American holiday that we've appropriated.

I don't think I fully realize that. Yeah. I mean, what do you fuck as you think Thanksgiving is about?

You know, it's it's the pilgrims and shit, you know, and they're not our, they're not our pilgrims. If they try to steal Lord Simco Day, that'll be a different matter. But I somehow doubt that's going to happen. So, I mean, you're the Canada expert on the podcast. You know all about things. Why do we have it in October then?

If we just stole it from them, why did we have to be like, um, um, it's completely different.

It's a month earlier. I really have no idea. I think that it perhaps aligns with like festivals

that already existed in Britain and France, like earlier.

But I mean, it's the same name.

And I believe we've celebrated it since the 19th century.

So usually with this kind of thing,

the explanation is that there are a bunch of companies

lobby for like a day off because they think it'll boost their sales.

And then they figure out some kind of like folksy way to shoehorn it into the calendar.
