Summary

Welcome to the first episode of the new series, Dark Shadows, where we will be discussing serial killers. Most of these are lesser known stories, although there may be one or two more well known ones. Today we bring you the story of "the internet's first serial killer", John Edward Robinson. Robinson took to the internet to lure women with promises of a new and better life. When their families started receiving letters from their missing family members that bore their signatures, everyone assumed that they really had just run away, but when authorities searched Robinson's property, they found more than they had bargained for.

0:35.2	We are diving into our dark shadow series.
0:39.0	In this series, we're going to talk about serial killers, their victims, and how they got there.
0:43.6	So if you heard the Q&A episode, we talked a little bit about how this series is kind of dark by nature, just given how serial killers are.
0:57.1	But this series will be serial killers, most of which will be lesser known. There will be a few that you have heard of before,
1:03.1	but overall it's probably going to be new material for you guys. But it's heavier than I think

1:13.6	We're going to start off by telling you guys some facts about serial killers, but again,
1:18.6	not the stuff that you've heard all the time about head injuries and the setting fires and all that.

1:31.6	The most serial killers that have been reviewed, caught, and gone through testing are considered to be psychopaths.
1:39.3	That's psychiatrist. Note, they cannot be successfully treated.
1:43.8	30 to 38% of psychopaths have abnormal brainwave patterns on a EEG.
1:50.1	So they're saying that even with proper medication and proper treatment, these people who
1:56.8	have these tendencies still are going to go back to doing what their body is driving them to do.
