Summary

In 1973, a band formed that would be an integral part of new emerging music genres. That band is Devo, and the new genres are New Wave and Punk. Rock n Roll had apparently ruled the airways for long enough. In the early 1970s, the splitting asunder of the megalithic, guitar-driven Rock genre began to take shape. Devo would play an important role, and even the band’s name fit the bill. Devo brings front and center the idea of “De-Evolution”. I cannot imagine a more fitting concept than de-evolution to describe what entertainment, and specifically the music industry, has been used for. De-evolution indeed. Are we not men? We are Devo.
