Longevity isn’t about just living longer, but rather living better and longer.

Today, I sit down with Dr. Greg Bailey, a former emergency room physician turned biotech investor who now operates at the forefront of longevity science. After a decade in emergency medicine, he transitioned into drug development and cutting-edge research focused on extending healthspan, not just lifespan. We get into the mechanics of ketosis and why metabolic flexibility may matter more than extreme dieting, and the growing role of AI in medicine. Beyond the tech, we address supplement credibility, flawed research, and why connection, purpose, and education remain foundational to real longevity.

If you’re serious about biohacking, metabolic health, and the future of regenerative medicine, this conversation sets the tone.

You’ll Learn:

[00:00] Introduction

[01:29] The creativity and absurdity Greg witnessed in emergency room patients

[03:14] Different motivations for pursuing longevity and how desired lifespan changes based on projected health

[07:46] Cutting-edge longevity interventions, including epigenetics and cellular reprogramming

[12:01] The UCLA study that reversed biological age by two years

[15:03] The supplement industry's crisis of trust, why 75% of studies fail replication, and the critical need for credible voices

[23:18] Mike Levin's revolutionary bioelectric limb regeneration

[33:57] What the ultimate longevity factor is, and today's epidemic of loneliness

[39:59] The two pathways to ketosis and why cells prefer ketones over sugar

[44:54] Ketones as a potential alcohol replacement for social occasions

[49:20] Ketones for brain health across all ages and spermidine's dramatic autophagy effects

[01:05:40] Greg's most influential teachers, his mother's profound impact, and my epiphanies I experienced

So Greg, tell me about your wild background.

0:06.5

I know you worked in emergency medicine.

0:08.4

You've done a few things.

0:09.6

And now you're one of the top dogs

0:11.8

in the longevity technology research space.

0:15.6

But I'm always curious how someone arrived to where they are,

0:19.4

especially in your case,

0:20.5

because it seems like you've done a few

0:21.7

things. Yeah, my poor mother still asked me, what do you do now? I know what you did when you were a

0:26.9

doctor. What are you doing now? So, emergency room doctor for 10 years, and then decided to make the

0:36.0

transition into biotech investing entrepreneur.

0:40.5

And because I did math before I did med school, I would start, you know, just looking at the numbers is really compelling.

0:46.7

You know, your chance of having a positive proof of concept on retrospective eight-year study is 30%.

0:52.4

And if it's for an unmet clinical need, and it's for a

0:56.1

large market and it's best in class or first in class, you can deliver an extraordinary return.

1:00.9

You get basically about 20 times increase in your number. And so that made sense to me, but you

1:07.4

can't do one drug because you have a 70% chance of failure. So we started out

1:11.9

with our first company Medivation looking for seven to 10 drugs to try and find that one that

1:17.5

would deliver the extraordinary return. And we had the very good fortune of doing it. So that was

1:21.5

my slippery slope into that. And then I've subsequently participated in a number of other industries and fields.

1:29.4

What was the wildest thing you ever saw in the emergency room?

1:34.0

Gosh, there's so many. I'm tilting my head back and going over it.
