He discovered this in the 1970s and couldn't get any academic funding. But he was eventually vindicated. He was like 75 by that point. We thought human beings were only 30,000 years old. And then we found something that 50,000 years, 100,000 years old, 200,000 years old, 300,000 years old, it keeps getting older. But they haven't updated, the evidence. It's free, and it really helps. We're trying to, as people can probably see from the content, we're trying to branch into new topics, just anything really interesting. This is really interesting what we're going to talk about. And I want to go straight into it. There's a one million year old skull. What is this? Yeah, so what you're referring to is a skull that was found in China in the 1990s. It's called the Jung Shien. Well, it's a collection of fossil called the Yung Shien fossil collection, which was where it was found in China. But this skull that you're referring to was actually initially classified as Homo erectus, which is quite a primitive form of human, or maybe you should use the word primitive, but further back on the evolutionary journey to us, Homo erectus. So it came Homo erectus, and then they diverged, split into different groups of humans, Neanderthals, Denisovans, homo sapiens, like us. So that's what this skull was thought to be, but it was very heavily crushed. It was like molded down into like a kind of crushed skull. So it was quite hard to classify what it was. |
