Summary

On November 22, 1994, Special Agents John Kuchta, Martha Dixon Martinez, and Michael Miller were working on a Washington DC cold case squad with Sgt. Hank Daly. Only John would survive that day. A felon illegally in possession of an automatic weapon ended up in the wrong room at police headquarters and opened fire. Hit multiple times in the arm, chest, heart, wrist, and leg, John returned fire and helped end the ambush. The heroic actions of everyone stopped a cold-blooded killer from taking even more lives.

overcoat, um, kid to me now, because I'm like almost 60 years old. But I mean, back then I was

something like what, 20, 29 or something. It was 30. But, um, he pulls out a, uh, uh, co-bram 11

Let me ask a question here real quick, too, because there's an interesting jurisdictional

1:41.5

question here, because in the federal statutes, I mean, back at that time,

1:45.4

there was no federal statute for just like a murder. The FBI had no authority to make arrests

1:51.0

and investigate murders, but DC being a special district. So when it came to charging, you'd get

1:56.2

somebody on this. What, even though you guys would help make the case, did that all get charged

2:01.0

through then, uh, the DC metropolitan police through their court system? Or how much of that

2:05.5

could you take federal? Yeah, that was wild. I mean, we, we, we, papered cases in the DC

2:09.8

system. We, you, you learned you did the like PD-123s. I think they were called their, their form,

2:15.3

like their report of investigation. You know, everything was recorded or you did a, you,

2:20.3

you typed it, you know, like their, their statements were like, you know, what did you see next?

2:24.7

You have, you know, put it in and then what their exact answer was. I mean, you, you,

2:28.4

you did everything on pretty much DC. It was on DC paperwork and everything went through DC

2:33.0

superior court. Um, but, you know, you testified as a witness or you, you, you, you, you,
