Summary

In this episode, we talked about OCD and scrupulosity. OCD is a difficult subject because the term is often thrown around as an adjective to describe perfectionistic tendencies. But true obsessive compulsive disorder is so different than the stereotypes may lead people to believe, and it can be a really serious mental health issue — one that is undoubtedly affecting someone you know and love. Hey everybody, before we get started, I just wanted to tell you about a new book from

0:04.4

Faith Matters Publishing. It's called Restoration by Patrick Mason. When we started the Faith Matters

0:09.2

Publishing project, one of our goals was to explore what restoration really means as the church

0:13.5

moves into its third century. And that's exactly what Patrick does. If you're like me and you've

0:18.1

ever wondered how restoring Israel can be relevant to you, you've got to read this book. Patrick

0:22.8

shows how as members of the church, it's our mission to truly lead out in bringing wholeness

0:27.4

and healing to the marginalized and the vulnerable. This book absolutely lit a fire for me,

0:31.8

and it has totally changed the way I view my own engagement with the church and with the world.

0:36.0

I really can't recommend this book strongly enough. It's the kind of book you want everyone

0:39.7

you know to be reading too, so that you can talk about it. So you can pick up a copy for yourself

0:44.2

or for your friends and family at Desert Book, Amazon, Audible, and Apple Books. Okay, that's

0:49.2

it on the book for now, but we'll be sharing a lot more in the near future. Thanks as always,

0:52.9

1:03.7

hear that term thrown around really casually as an adjective when someone is talking about how

1:07.9

perfectionistic they are, how clean they like things, but true obsessive compulsive disorder is

1:12.9

so different than those stereotypes may lead people to believe, and it really is a serious mental

1:17.2

health issue. And one that is for sure affecting someone that you know right now and love,

1:22.3

and it's especially hard on our missionaries. So many people who have OCD especially religiously

1:28.2

themed OCD don't even know what to call their pain. They often only have religious language or

1:33.6

explanations for what they're feeling, and that can lead to so many years of deep and totally

1:38.5

unnecessary suffering. And that really gets to the primary reason that we're doing this episode.
