Summary

Penny and Duncan McAllister married young. But by all accounts, their marriage flourished while Duncan pursued his career as an officer in the British Army. In 1990, they moved to Armagh. Through their involvement in the diving community they met a young soldier with the UDR, Susan Christie. Nine months later, both women would be injured while out walking in a secluded forest, and Penny was horrifically killed.. 0:30.6	You are listening to the mens rea podcast and this is the story of Penny McAllister. The Oh, Penny McAllister was the eldest daughter of Norma and Desmond Squire, born in 1966.
1:18.0	Her father was a teacher, but ended up joining the military and teaching the children of other people who were also serving in the British Armed Forces.
1:27.0	She grew up in Gibraltar and Germany.
1:31.0	Penny was taught by her father for most of her childhood and she did well at school and was bright.
1:37.0	She enjoyed music and theatre and took part in a number of stage productions held at her school in Germany which her father was principal of.
1:46.0	She was bright and bubbly, good-looking and tall.
1:50.0	She met Duncan McAllister when she was 16 at the bar in the officer's mess at Lipsstadt.
1:56.1	He was born in June 1961. His father was a captain in the Royal Armed Service Corps. He attended boarding school in the UK. After completing
2:06.0	O-levels there he went on to study at Wellbeck College in order to join the technical
2:10.9	Corps, which he did.
2:13.1	He gained a commission and did signals training
2:15.8	before being stationed in Germany.
2:18.5	Duncan met Penny six months after that posting,
2:21.7	and just after calling off his engagement to a girl he'd been with for some time.
2:27.0	For some reason, flustered by the pretty young girl, Duncan had been rude to her,
2:32.0	but he couldn't get her out of his head, and so a number of months later he called to her home, and the two started going out at that point.
