I want to first get you to talk about the origin of this liturgy for daily worship.

And you may be aware of this, but liturgy is not a term that many, many Christians use and

understand. So first, tell me what in the world is a liturgy, and then we want to talk about, excuse me, what in the world is a liturgy?

And then we want to talk about, excuse me, the origin of this book.

So it's not a word we use much and yet it is a Bible word, liturgya in the New Testament.

It's used in two ways.

One broadly to speak of the whole of life as worship. So Romans 12 to present your

bodies as living sacrifice is holy and acceptable to God, which is your reasonable act of worship.

So it can refer to the whole of life liturgy. But it's also used in places like Hebrews 9 for the specific rituals

and the events that took place at the tabernacle or at the temple. So in a more narrow sense.

And that's really the way it's used today. It's used in reference to what do we do in church,

in a church service when we gather for corporate worship, not the whole of life, but now narrowly focused on church worship.

And the order of the elements and what are those elements of what we do when we gather.

That's really what people mean these days by liturgy.

And the interesting point there is that if liturgy is the elements in a church service

and the order of them, it's not whether your church has a liturgy.
