A couple of months ago, my buddy Riley Morton was down here in Crestone.

And he had this idea for a project that he wants to do,

which is basically talking to authors to get the backstory of books.

And he's uniquely well-suited to do this because he's a documentary filmmaker and he's a very smart guy and very thorough, very prepared, takes things very seriously.

And so he came to me and he was like, look, I want to, like, let's do a dry run on this with Sex

at Dawn. I'd like to talk with you about what your life was like before you wrote that book.

Like, what led up to this? How did this book come to be? And, you know, I, I don't know, I'm probably not a good authority

about myself, but I feel like if I had to describe myself, I would say I'm simultaneously

someone who is very comfortable talking about themselves, obviously I make a living at it,

uh, but also kind of reticent to talk about some things,

particularly personal things that involve other people. If like everyone I've ever known was dead,

I would tell you some fucking stories, holy shit. But I don't because I'm trying to be respectful of other people's privacy.

And, uh, you know, they're not podcasters.

They're not people who, um, want their private shit in the public realm.

So it's always a complicated thing.

Some people like my friend Neil Strauss, he and I have talked about this a lot.

And if you've read his books, particularly the truth, man, he reveals some things about

his parents' marriage, about their sexual life, that I personally would never have written.

Even if they were dead, I wouldn't have written it.

And we talked about that, and his thing is your life is your life.
